Deeply rooted in human connection

Get accessible and personalized mental healthcare from the comfort of your home

Meet Dr. Joey Tapia

LPC, CRC, RPT, NCC

My journey to becoming a therapist began with the desire for creating a community that is inclusive, caring, and accessible. My background growing up in a bicultural space as a gay Mexican-American man in Texas helped me gravitate towards helping people from different identities. As a first generation college student, I was struggling to identify a career path that shared my similar values. When I took an American Sign Language class my world changed. I found a home in rehabilitative services and decided to dedicate my career serving the disability community and other marginalized groups.

My approach

My approach is deeply rooted in my beliefs that human connection is necessary and is key to our survival. I am an attachment-based therapist with advanced training in Emotionally Focused Individual, Couple, and Family Therapy. My work is grounded in attachment theory that leans on various frameworks to support individual identities such as disability-affirmative therapy, LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy, and a trauma-informed lens to enhance our journey together. I work to be accessible, responsive, and emotionally engaged in the work that we do in therapy. We collaborate to develop goals that align with what you want to get out of our time together. The space I offer seeks to facilitate development and provide a deep understanding in every session.
